Our speakers on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 were Dave Renfro (Left), Melody Jaurez (Center) and Ruby Davis (Right) who introduced Maya Pedal.  Maya Pedal is a program focused in Guatemala that provides bicycle-driven devices for multiple purposes ranging from a blender to make cleaning soaps to corn grinders and water pumps.  Dave, a member of The Rotary Club of Columbia Falls, along with Melody (visiting from Guatemala) explained how such devices may be powerful tools to help people who otherwise may be driven to leave Guatemala and seek entrance to the USA and aggravating the border crisis (Dave believes the border crisis is only beginning.)  To help raise funds for the bike/machines, Maya Pedal is selling coffee bags (with coffee!) and shoulder bags made in Guatemala.  Machine costs vary, but $1,000 would set up approximately 3.  A wonderful example of Rotary helping others help themselves.  For more information, please see http://www.Maya-pedal.org/ .
